Born in Toronto, Leila eventually followed her parents to the US and spent 6 or so years moving between several US cities. Along with interesting jobs, she took a variety of art and craft courses at each stop, ranging from art and jewellery to film and photography. She officially began her handcrafted-jewellery business vending her hardware store creations on St Marks and Broadway in NYC. Back in Toronto, she has spent the last 17 years as a parent and jewellery designer with a focus on glass and ceramics. In 2007, Leila submitted her photographs to a local art show. The process was exciting, the show was successful and something clicked for her. A part time University of Toronto student, she promptly switched her focus from English to Art and was accepted into the visual studies program where she is now learning, and relearning, the fine art basics alongside her independent photography work. |
